Not Me! Monday

Welcome to Not Me! Monday. This blog carnival was created by MckMama. You can head over to her blog to read what she and everyone else have not been doing this week.

This Saturday, on the way back from the beach, I did not contemplate peeing into a disposable diaper (or two) just so I would not have to stop the car and wake up Lucy. Letting her sleep and get in a full nap is necessary to keep my sanity!

This week, I absolutely did not let Lucy watch Finding Nemo a billion times just to stop a tantrum.

This week, I did not let Lucy eat a whole meal of goldfish crackers in order to get some kind food into her little belly and to keep her occupied while grocery shopping.

This week, I did not take pillows and towels off the store shelf while shopping. I did not put these items into the cart so Lucy could nap.

This week, I did not forget to brush Lucy's teeth before she fell asleep in my arms. And we were not on the couch when she fell asleep.

These are all things that I did not do this week and I am okay with that!

Life's A Beach!

Saturday, we went to the beach since the forecast in our area was 105 degrees! We traveled west for about an hour and a half and went to Stinson Beach where the weather was much more tolerable for Lucy and I.

We had so much fun in the sand. Lucy helped bury my legs and we used molds and shovels and buckets to dig and make a mess of ourselves. It got to be a little overwhelming with sand everywhere. I try to be like the Beatles and just 'let it be' but when sand gets into her mouth and eyes then I have concerns.

We were at the beach for about 4 hours and decided to leave when the sand became too much of a hassle. Her snacks are supposed to be high calorie and nutritious NOT sandy!

To Sleep Or Not To Sleep...

Lucy will fight me to the death at bedtime! Tonight she slid off the couch to continue playing just as she slid into dreamland.

Being the co-sleeping, extended breastfeeding mom that I am, who doesn't believe in letting a child cry-it-out, Lucy fell asleep in my arms while trying to climb down off the couch! She is a fighter in more ways than one but sleeping has always been an issue with us.

I don't know why going to sleep has always been an issue...
Maybe because she is the kind of kid that doesn't want to miss out on one single thing and she thinks we might just have a party without her while she slumbers.
Maybe she just hates sleeping all together, which might just be the craziest notion EVER, considering I could take a 4 hour nap during the day if I had the time!
Maybe she fights it because she knows that I love her so much and I want to spend EVERY WAKING MOMENT with her.

Whatever the reason for her bedtime stubbornness one thing is certain...I love our cuddle time together and cherish every moment we spend (even if it is spent fighting off Mr. Sandman!)

Goodnight my little monkey!

Team Lucy 2009

May 2, 2009 was a rainy day but Team Lucy and hundreds of other CF supporters walked anyway in the annual Great Strides Walk in Sacramento to benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Thanks to all those who donated to the cause and walked in the rain for my little Lucy!
As you can see, she slept right through all the excitement!

Girls Night Out!

Tonight is the long awaited (for me) girl's night out for my 28th birthday!

I am very excited to get together with some friends and go out drinking and dancing and hopefully causing an uproar like the good ol' days!

Lucy will be hanging out with my mom while I do my thing...the separation is always such sweet sorrow but I feel the night is much deserved and needed. All mommy's need a break every once in a while! It will clear my head and ultimately make me a better mommy in the morning (after I nurse my hangover.)

My taxi 'chariot' has arrived...Cheers and goodnight! Don't wait up for me...

PSA for Lucy...

This is a video that I have been working on for a few days now. Let me know what you think...it might still need some editing.
Doing this kind of editing to match up with music sure can be time consuming! I hope you like it so far...you all are the first to see it so leave me some comments PLEASE!

New jogger...

Just yesterday, I went to go get my hair chopped off again and my hair stylist and friend offered me a jogger/bike trailer FOR FREE that has been in her garage unused for years. I was so excited. I had been doing some light searching on Craig's List for a jogger stroller and didn't really want to pay the prices!

I have not been a "jogger" in years and I really want to get back into the swing of things again. Jogging with a regular stroller is NOT conducive to a leisurely jaunt around the town so I knew if I were going to get serious about running and exercising again I would need the appropriate tools for the job!

I hosed and wiped down the new cruiser and it shined up like a new penny! Lucy and I took it for a stroll today and as it turns out Lucy loves sitting in it but it was way too hot outside. We went around the block and went straight back home. The sun was directly above us the whole time and Lucy was getting way too hot in there. Although I had her salty juice in with her, she was getting flush and extremely HOT to the touch.

Lucy and I will re-attempt the jogging tonight when the sun goes down. Let the jogging begin! I have been clinging to this baby fat for 17 months now and I'm running out of excuses! I refuse to give up the FABULOUS food that I cook and my portion control could use a little work but I figure if I just burn more calories, that should do the trick!
Only time will tell. Time to get fit...

Ready, set, JOG...

Lucy Takes Enzymes...

Lucy just turned 17 months old and has been able to take her digestive enzymes (Creon5) for a couple of months now!

We had her on Creon10 enzymes which are slightly larger than the Creon5's. They were not working as well in the absorption department! She had a episode of rectal prolapse that wasn't pretty.

We had to switch her to back to the Creon5 for better absorption because the spheres have a larger surface area in which to work their magic!

Since the switch, she has been doing this!

Sometimes she crunches them and sometimes they just slide right down! Either way...I was happy that I didn't need to break them in applesauce any more!

I hope to NEVER buy another jar of applesauce! EVER!

So Many Things To Do...

This summer is turning out to be quite eventful! With our first week of swim lessons under our belt, we are anticipating the next week of swimming and hoping that the weather will be a little warmer. I KNOW! California in June and it's only been in the 70's and 80's and breezy. Usually around this time it is already hitting triple digits...what's the deal mother nature? Not that I like it to be sweltering-sauna hot but shivering in the pool is not fun either!

We have a few major vacation plans that I am looking forward to this summer. The first week of July we will be going to visit some family in Georgia! I haven't been there since I was about 13 years old! It will be nice to see my dad's side of the family. They have never met Lucy and Lucy has also never been on an airplane. Her first plane trip and we are going ALL THE WAY across the country! Some people call it bravery. I just call it crazy!

We have everything lined up already. Portable DVD player with Elmo and the ever wonderful Baby Signing Time videos, a note from her pulmonologist giving permission to take all Lucy's meds and nebulizer on the airplane (carry-on) and the number to the nearest CF Clinic in Atlanta in case anything happens. My biggest fear is not that I won't be able to keep Lucy entertained for hours on end but just a fear of the fact that I have take ALL of Lucy's meds onto the plane. I do not want to be hassled! They will see one bitchy mother if they mess with me!

**Any other tips that you mommies might have about traveling with equipment and CF meds (refrigerated meds) would be greatly appreciated!**

The first week of August we will be going on a week trip to Hat Creek. It is in northern California near Mt. Lassen and Shasta. It is so serene and beautiful up there with mountains all around you with creeks and streams filled with the yummiest trout! This will be mine and Lucy's second annual trip up there with Rhonda (my dad's wife) and her VERY large family.

Lucy was only 7 months old last year when we went and doing tent camping with an infant was a piece of cake! This year, with a very active toddler, things could get a little messy! We will be taking a hard plastic baby pool for her 'bath time' at night to ensure that our tent stays semi-neat! I really don't want to cuddle at night in a sleeping bag with a little ball of dirt, thank you very much! I am really big into getting 'down and dirty' when I camp but a little cleanliness can go a long way! As long as our feet are clean when we sleep then I'm okay!

We have these trips to take along with a wrap-up party event for the Great Strides Team Lucy on July 11th, another round of swim lessons at the end of July, trips to the zoo, library, play dates at the park, the county and state fairs and much more!

Very busy and VERY FUN!

New York Times

The New York Times has a wonderful article about the many different lives and people who live with Cystic Fibrosis. It is nice to see some CF coverage by a major news organization. No two CF stories are alike. Take the time to listen to other CFers and their families.

Playing with Her "Thumper"

Lucy loves to play with her "thumping" cup.

She tries so hard to 'thump' herself and ME!

Swim Lessons...Summer begins!

Lucy has a busy summer ahead of her! We have already been vacationing to Pismo Beach, California and Idaho to visit family.

We have now started swim lessons! They started on Monday and run for two weeks! Every evening for a half an hour! My little fish Lucy just loves the water! She is so fearless in the pool. She tries to go off and swim on her own.

She has mastered the art of blowing bubbles in the water with her mouth and can kick and splash with her feet! She loves to go over to the wall and kick off the side and she can hang on to the side of the pool UNASSISTED.

We have another two week class booked at the end of July. She can get in more swimming practice and more Vitamin D! Two birds with one stone!

Vest and Neb while traveling!!!

NoExcuses has found a way to use her vest and do treatments in the car!! Yes, she commutes to work and does treatments to save time!

I can only imagine how this could help so many CFers and their families! If I get this added to my car we can do Pulmozyme while camping or on long trips! Very exciting technology!

Breathing Treatments

This is Lucy doing her breathing treatments. She does Pulmozyme and Xopenex first thing in the morning and a few more Xopenex treatments throughout the day. They usually take about 10-15 minutes each.

The only way I can get her to sit for that long is to play Barney. She sits intently watching and then sings the "I Love You" song muffled through the mask! Very cute and quite the life saver!!! Thanks Barney!

Blueberries!!

Today I had to bribe my daughter to eat her fat-filled yummy breakfast of sausage, eggs and potatos with frozen blueberries! It's a very messy bribe but it works every single time! Anything to get those calories in!

Lucy's Animal Noises Video!

Just a glimpse at Lucy's love of animals. These are just a few animal noises that she knows...and Elmo and Barney. She has been doing these noises for a couple of months now and I'm just getting them on video! What a slacker I am!

Just Allergies

Today was a really good day! I took Lucy in for a follow-up appointment with her Pulmonologist. Two weeks ago, I had taken her in because she was very wheezy, coughing and had a lot of snot and itchy, watery eyes. My mommy instinct kicked in and I just knew that it was allergies and not a cold.

Springtime in the Sacramento Valley can be excruciating for so many allergy sufferers, me included. At a young age, I was tested for allergies and found out that I was allergic to everything in the air that we breathe, only excluding pet dander. I received allergy shots for years which helped build my immune system but I still get seasonal allergies BADLY!

Not only did Lucy inherit my defective CF gene but also my body's aversion to pollens in the air. She was given Zyrtec to help with the allergy symptoms and also Flovent for the wheezing. It helped tremendously! Her lungs were free and clear today! We will continue the antihistamines through the spring season!

I am also pleased to announce that she gained a half of a pound in a little over two weeks! I was beside myself. With Lucy's recent eating habits due to her canine teeth coming in I was shocked that she actually gained weight!
